I really enjoyed this course. It clearly explains lighting in a simple, effective way, with great examples throughout. The videos showing how you shape the light were especially helpful, particularly the sections on Taking Control of Available Light and Back Light, Kick Light, and Two-Point Lighting.

"The most effective lessons for me are where Damien breaks down his own work and explains the lighting - both available light and how he mixes it with strobes or continuous lights. His three-point lighting explanations, even using only available light, were eye-opening.
I’ve picked up countless small but crucial details: placing a subject precisely in shadow, using nearby reflective surfaces, and making tiny adjustments that create a huge difference. These are the things only experienced light masters really know."

Damien presents this course, as he does with all his tutorials, in a calm and relaxed manner at a pace that sits comfortably between the novice learner and the seasoned professional. I am so pleased I signed up for this course. The locations and models alone are breathtaking, but Damien's knowledge and application of lighting is the icing on the cake that makes this course a definitive must have.

In this video, filmed on location in Italy exclusively for this lighting course, I show how I mix a continuous hard light with ambient light. I use the barn doors on the light to shape the light output, isolating my model. These shots could easily be taken with a Godox AD200 with a round head or a Godox AD100 in a Godox S2 bracket. All the kit information, together with links, is in the course.
Sigrife (the model in the video) and I edited this video together. She loved the comedy moment and wanted me to keep it in the edit. This was shot in my kitchen because I wanted to work in the most accessible locations. The videos in this course are shot in a wide variety of locations, including city streets, houses, a photography studio, fields and abandoned properties - all available to you!
My approach to teaching is hands-on, generous, and encouraging. You’ll learn, you’ll laugh, and you’ll develop skills that transform your work. Whether you’re refining your technique or redefining your style, I’m here to help you do it brilliantly.
Over the years, I’ve coached photographers like you from around the world, and I love nothing more than helping others grow in confidence and skill. In 2013, I was honoured to receive the ‘Master Craftsman’ qualification from the Guild of Photographers in the UK – a recognition of both technical excellence and creative vision.
